Website improvements

Fix the actual problem before rebuilding.

A dated website does not always need a complete replacement. Start with the tasks your customers cannot complete and decide how much really needs to change.

The practical answer

Small content or contact problems may need targeted fixes. A redesign becomes useful when the structure, presentation, and editing workflow no longer fit the business.

Walk through one real customer journey

Choose a service and open the website on your phone. Can you identify the offer, understand the business, see relevant work, and reach the right contact channel? Make a note of the specific step that becomes confusing or stops working.

“The website feels old” describes an impression. “Customers cannot find examples of my commercial interiors” gives me a problem I can address. The more concrete the problem, the easier it is to choose between an update and a rebuild.

When smaller changes may be enough

  • The contact details or service descriptions are out of date.
  • Good project photographs exist but have not been added.
  • The main enquiry link points to the wrong destination.
  • A useful page is difficult to find from the navigation.
  • An existing layout works, but its content needs clarification.

These issues may be solved within the existing website if the platform and access allow it. Share the URL and the exact changes first. I can assess the scope before suggesting a full replacement.

When a redesign is worth discussing

A business may have grown beyond the website’s original structure. A single page might now be carrying several services, a large portfolio, and different customer journeys. Or the owner may need a CMS because the person who previously handled updates is no longer available.

A rebuild can also be appropriate when the existing layout is difficult to use on mobile or the platform cannot support the agreed requirements. These are questions to investigate, rather than assumptions that every old site has the same problem.

Keep a record of what already matters

List existing page URLs, important content, enquiry routes, and tracking before replacing the site. Identify the pages customers already use and the pages that receive search visits. Agree what stays, what changes, and where old URLs should lead.

If you have Search Console access, share the relevant reports when discussing the redesign. They provide context for planning, but a new visual design by itself does not guarantee stronger search performance.

Send a short, useful redesign brief

Send the current URL, the problems you want to solve, the pages you need, and any features that must keep working. Include whether you want to manage the content yourself. Read about my website redesign service for the scope options.

For a portfolio-led example, explore Echelon Interiors. Standard packages range from $200 to $500; custom features and migration requirements are quoted separately. I agree the work before the build, and website payment is due after completion.

Let's plan your website

Put this into practice.

Send me your business details and what you need. I can agree the pages, features, and delivery scope before you choose a package.
